Anatolian Houses, Cappadocia,

This is the current Luxe Queen of the Cappadocian cave hotels. From outside you can stand and wonder how modern builders managed to wrestle some neat linear shapes beneath the crumbling snowcone shaped formations that nature has created over centuries. Inside, you can simply slip into a jaccuzzi (14 of the 17 suites have them), sip on red wine from the wine cellar and accept it as a thing of unique beauty. Of course, the view from here won't be walls of bathroom tiles. It's more likely to be sandstone or moulded limestone with ranks of little hand-carved, shelf-like openings that deserve candles. We can't be prescriptive here, because each of the suites and the two deluxe rooms has been individually decorated - from Persian glamour den to rustic raw. Lest the thought of cave-dwelling makes you shiver, the thoughtful creators of Anatolian Houses have made sure that all rooms are warmed-up with floor-based central heating. There are full spa and sauna amenities as well as a heated indoor and outdoor pool that snakes between the different cave formations. But we rather think, that the Cappadocian wine on 24 hour tap from the limestone fountain in the courtyard, might prove the biggest distraction of all.
